From the Sioux Center News, December 7, 1939:

Last Rites For Henry Bomgaars Today

Funeral services for Henry Bomgaars, 67, of Hull are being held today, Thursday, at the Reformed Church at Middleburg. Mr. Bomgaars died at Hull Monday night after a lingering illness. Rev. Douwstra of Hull and Rev. Mansen of Middleburg officiated.

From the Sioux County Capital, December 7, 1939:

HENRY BOMGAARS

Henry Bomgaars, 68, died at Hull of paralysis of the throat. He is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. John De Cook of Orange City. He never married.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7 in the Arie Bomgaars home at 1 p.m. and in the Reformed church at 1:30 o’clock. Revs. F. B. Mansen and George Douwstra of Hull will officiate.

A year ago Mr. Bomgaars was badly injured while cleaning the pump in the pump house at Hull. He had a sack wrapped around his hand and it became entangled in the engine. The hand was mangled, only part of two fingers remaining. The severity of this accident caused a shock from which he did not recover.

Henry Bomgaars, 68 Years Old, Died Monday Evening

Henry Bomgaars, aged 68 years, died Monday evening December 4, at the local hospital, where he had been a patient for several weeks following a stroke.

Mr. Bomgaars was born at Pella, Iowa, and as a young man came to the Middleburg vicinity and made his home. He never married. Mr. Bomgaars was one of a family of five boys and three girls, and is survived by one of the sisters, Mrs. John De Kock of Orange City, and a host of nephews and nieces. He had lived in Hull for over twelve years and had made many friends.

The funeral will be held this afternoon (Thursday, December 7) from the church at Middleburg, conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra of Hull and Rev. Mansen of Middleburg. The remains will be laid to rest in the Middleburg Cemetery.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Bomgaars, Henry, d. 4 Dec 1939, Capel Twp Cemetery, Middleburg, IA (WPA Cem Index). No FindaGrave.com page for him was located.

His death certificate (informant Marinus Bomgaars) has him as Henry M. Bomgaars, single, a farmer, born in Iowa August 12, 1871; parents Marenius Bomgaars and Nellie Boland, both born in Holland; died in Hull December 4, 1939; cause, apoplexy, onset November 5.

The 1925 Iowa state census gives his parents as Marinus Bomgaars and Peternella Boland.

In the 1920 census he is living in Capel Township with his widowed sister-in-law Mrs. A. Bomgaars and working as a carpenter. In the 1930 census he is living in Lincoln Township (near Hull) with his widowed sister-in-law Margaret Bomgaars, a farmer, and her daughter Sophie.
