Mrs. Jennie Smit, nee Baltenhuis, a niece of Mr. and Mrs. John Vander Weerd died at her home southwest of town February 19th of heart trouble, and at the time of her death was 20 years, 8 months and 1 days of age. She was a native of the Netherlands and being bereft of her parents she came to America about three years ago and found a home with her uncle and aunt until a year ago when she was married to Peter Smit. A little baby girl was born to them and the saddest of it all is that the mother is taken away when the 3-months-old baby needed her tender care. We do not understand the mysterious acts of providence, but must bow in humble submission to Him who doeth all things for the best. Funeral services were conducted at the Independent Reformed church by Rev. Van Dyke, of Sioux Center, Thursday afternoon in the presence of many sympathizing friends. Interment took place in Valley View cemetery. Her husband and relatives have the sympathy of their friends in their hour of sorrow.
