DENVER, CO—Carol (DeJong) Franken, 84, Denver, CO, died May 15, 2021, at Castle Rock, CO.

Services will be July 24, at Elizabeth Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, CO.

Carol Fae was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Orange City, IA, to Robert and Lillian (Vaas) De Jong. She attended Orange City Christian School through the eighth grade. She worked at Gary’s Market in Orange City until her marriage to Irwin E. Franken Oct 2, 1953. They settled in Orange City where they raised their family of six children. They were members of First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.

At age 42, she obtained her GED and trained as a beautician. They moved to Denver, CO, in 1985. Her family was her life’s work. She worked as a beautician, enjoyed gardening, quilting and other home arts. She had a special gift for hospitality, followed politics and the Denver Broncos.

She is survived by her children: Pam (Larry) Van Veldhuizen of Sioux Center, IA, Janice Docter of Parker, CO, Jeff of Ramah, CO, Cindy (Steve) Stutz of Calhan, CO, Tim (Kory) of Parker, CO, and Phil (Bonnie) of Elizabeth, CO; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Marilyn (Jim) Goslinga of Orange City, IA, and Linda (Ken) Rhods of Rock Valley, IA; one brother, Don (Cindy) DeJong of Alton, IA; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Altena and Velma Franken both of Sioux Center, IA.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Irwin; her parents; her brothers, Marlo and Ronald; sister, Elinor and husband, Bob Boluyt; and granddaughter, Chrystal Hassell.
