Boender, Claude born 1922 died 2000

Claude Boender, the son of John and Rena De Boer Boender, was born April 15, 1922 at Hospers, Iowa. He graduated from Newkirk High School and went on to attend Northwestern Academy in Orange city for one year. During WWII he served in the Navy from 1944 until 1946. He served 18 months of overseas duty.

On January 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lucy Postma at her parents farm home in rural Sanborn, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Sanborn before moving to a farm near Ashton where they have lived and farmed for many years. He passed away on Friday, February 25, 2000, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, after being stricken at his farm home. He reached the age of 77 years 10 months and 10 days.

He was a member of the Frist Reformed Church in Sheldon and a former member of the Matlock Reformed Church having served as an elder and deacon of both churches. He taught Sunday School for over 35 years. He was a member and sang with the Senior Saints and had served on the Farmers Co-op Oil Board, the Ritter Elevator Board and for seven years served on the Hope Haven Board, in its beginning years.

Claude leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucy of rural Ashton; his children, Kathleen and her husband, Erwin Wieringa of Sheldon; John and his wife, Loretta Boender of Ashton; Ruth and her husband, Allen Vander Broek of Westminster CO; Lavonne and her husband, Daniel Burns of Baltic, SD; LeRoy and his wife, Rhea Boender of Brandon, WI; and Joann Nielsen of Rochester MN; also 20 grandchildren: 4 great grandchildren; four sisters Lucretia and Adriana Boender of Hospers; Arlene Ver Hoek of Estelline, SD and Josephine Van Oort of Denver, CO; two brothers Henry Boender of Hospers and John Boender of Allendale, MI; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, and an infant brother.
