ABRAHAM LANGSTRAAT

Abraham Langstraat, 23, died at his home, Tuesday afternoon, Sept.5, 1939 following a lingering illness.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Langstraat and was born Nov. 7, 1915 in Capel Township, Sioux County where he had always lived. He had worked on the farm until he became sick.

Those of whom preceded him in death are his brothers Wilbur, 3 weeks old, John, 16 years and a sister Lucille, 9 months. Surviving are his parents, three brothers; Cornelius, Wilbur and Henry, living at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Pluim of Alton, Ia. and Mrs. Sander Roos of Hospers, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept 8, 1939 at 1:00 p.m. from the residence and at 1:30 p.m. from the First Reformed Church of Newkirk, Iowa. The Reverend Mr. Z. Roetman officiated. Burial was in the Newkirk cemetery.

ABRAHAM LANGSTRAAT

Abraham Langstraat, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Langstraat of Newkirk vicinity, died Tuesday, September 5, of a lingering illness resulting from a ruptured appendix. He was 24 years of age and is the fourth child in the family to die. Surviving are Cornelius, at home; Mrs. Arthur Pluim of Alton; Mrs. Sander Roos of Hospers; younger brothers Wilbur and Henry at home and his parents.

Funeral services were held Friday with Rev. Mr. Z. Roetman officiating and interment was made in the Newkirk cemetery. The Newkirk school was closed during the funeral and the Newkirk mixed quartette composed of Arthur De Graaf, Clifford Top, Anna Beyer and Anna Blom sang several hymns during the service held at 1 p.m. at the home and 1:30 p.m. at the Newkirk church.

RESEARCH NOTES

The Alton Democrat (September 15, 1939) adds that he had been in ill health for over a year. He recently underwent an operation for ruptured appendix and had partially recovered when complications, including liver infection, set in. His mother was the former Cecile Van Roekel of Orange City.

His death certificate gives his residence as Capel Township, Sioux County, address Sheldon RR #1, and adds his occupation: farm laborer, last worked August 1938; parents Henry C. Langstraat, born in Capel Township, and Celia Van Roekel, born at Hospers; died at 3 p.m. September 5, 1939; cause, multiple abscesses of liver following ruptured appendix, onset Aug. 1938; a laparotomy was performed in March 1939.
