The old Mr. Vennema, father of Mrs. D. Schalekamp, retired on Tuesday morning. He came here last fall to spend his last days with his daughter. Everything was prepared for that. However, he had been ailing for a few days. At the end of the previous week his illness increased. We sent a message to the children for the sake of it. Three sons, two from Michigan and one from Chicago, arrived here Monday, and were allowed to meet the old father and talk to him. The corpse has been embalmed and will be transported today Wednesday evening, accompanied by the children here, to Holland MI to be lowered into the family grave. G. H. Hospers.Mr. Vennema was part of the Oudsettlers' colony in Michigan. Here on the spot he had only a few acquaintances. He was a quiet one in the land: he exercised a childlike faith in faith, and at the entrance into the dark valley everything was light. The family have our condolences.
