From the Hawarden Independent, May 25, 1939:

DEATH FOLLOWS LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Wm. Walker Passed Away at Her Home Here Tuesday

Mrs. Wm. Walker, a long time resident of Hawarden, passed away at her home at 5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon following a lingering illness from heart trouble and complications. Mrs. Walker had been in failing health for a long time and had been bedfast for almost two months. She grew weaker gradually until death claimed her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home with Herbert Lucas of Alton and Nelson Jansma of Hartley, Iowa, in charge. Interment will be in Grace Hill cemetery.

Lillian Elidy Thrapp was born at Thurman, Iowa, March 9, 1872, and so was some past 67 years of age at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of Thurman. She was united in marriage with William Walker at Silver City, Iowa, Nov. 29, 1890, and following their marriage resided there for a time. They lived at various other places in Iowa and for a number of years they resided at Manilla, Iowa. Later they moved to Madison, S.D., and later moved to this vicinity from Madison. For a time they lived on a farm in Union county, west of Hawarden. After they left the farm they moved to Sioux Falls where they resided four years but in 1922 they returned to Hawarden and she lived here continuously since that time.

Five children were born to this union, three of whom preceded her in death. Two passed away when children and Bert Walker passed away in 1937. The children, who with her husband survive her, are Ivan Walker of Hawarden and Mrs. Martin Broman of Manilla, Iowa. There are four grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Van Hale, Valley, Neb.; and two brothers, Elmer and Bert Thrapp of Manilla.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Methodist church for many years but of late she had been associated with the organization of Truth. Her interests were centered about her home and most of her time was spent looking after the welfare of her family. Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband and children in their hour of sorrow.
