Kenneth Marlo was born on September 4, 1952, to William K. and Joyce (Mulder) Kooiker. He grew up on his family’s farm near Hull. He attended Hull Christian School and graduated from Boyden-Hull High School. He then went on to earn a degree in agriculture from NCC in Sheldon.

Ken was a lifelong member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. God’s gift of faith was a constant comfort in his life. He found great joy in studying his Bible and deeply appreciated his fellow church members help to attend weekly services.

Ken enjoyed traveling the United States, dropping in to visit with people he knew along the way, always able to recount and share memories. His ability to recall memories from the past never ceased to amaze others. He was always looking for friends and never forgot minute details of encounters with people he met on his voyages. He also enjoyed riding his bike and put countless miles on his tires. He loved special visits from other people. In Ken’s later years, after losing his freedom to roam, he still enjoyed sharing car rides along different routes throughout the countryside, a tradition since early childhood when his father would take the family on joyrides.

Survivors include five siblings and their spouses, Karla and Doug Kats, of Hudson, South Dakota; Aletha and Dave Groeneweg, of Rock Valley; Lyle and Pam Kooiker, of Greenacres, Florida; Nick and Janet Kooiker, of Hull; and Tricia Driesen, of Hull; twenty nieces and nephews; and 28 great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Kooiker, who passed away on April 25, 2007, sharing the same month and date fourteen years later.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School and Trinity Christian High School in Hull.
