Helen Behrens, age 89 of George, IA died Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society of George, IA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 16th at St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Hull, IA, with Rev. Aaron Deutsch officiating. Burial will follow at church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 16th from 9:30 AM until the hour of service at the church. The family requests masks and social distancing be followed.

Helen Margaret Rachel Hinsch was born August 8, 1931 to Adele (Sohl) and William Hinsch on the farm 6 miles east of Doon, Iowa. Helen was baptized August 30, 1931 and confirmed her faith on March 25, 1945. Confirmation verse: Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life where unto thou art also called and hast professed before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12.

She married Arnold Behrens, November 15, 1968 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and Arnold farmed 5 miles west of George till June of 1988, when they moved to George, Iowa.

Helen worked at Dr. Oelrich Clinic in Sioux Center for 15 years, before she was married. After moving to George, she worked for the Tarko Doll company in George until it closed. She later worked at Natural Beauty Green House near Boyden until retirement.

She liked to read, cook and bake. She was known to bake 10 to 12 different kinds of cookies at Christmas time, and would share with family and friends. She also was known for her delicious peach pies, prepared for the 4th of July Celebration. She enjoyed putting in a fair-sized garden and shared its bounty. She took pride in her thriving asparagus patch that she had transplanted from the farm. She enjoyed going to the grand and great grandkids school activities and all other family gatherings.

On July 7, 2010, Helen’s husband, Arnold died at the age of 86. She remained living in George and stayed active with community and church activities.

In August of 2019 Helen entered the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA, where she remained until her death, this past Monday, March 8, 2021.

She is survived by two children, Curt (wife, Iva) Behrens of Rock Rapids, IA and Karen (husband, Dale) Brandt of Spencer, IA; four grandchildren, grandson, Paul (wife, Amy) Behrens of Brandon, SD and their children, Hailey, Hannah, Hilary and Hayden, grandson, Matthew (wife, Stephanie) Behrens of Sioux Center, IA, and their children, Peter and Morgan, grandson, Dustin (wife, Andrea) Brandt of Boulder, CO and granddaughter, Megan Brandt of Denver, CO; three sisters-in-law, Betty Schisel of Mankato, MN, Wilma (husband, Don) Ransom of Sheldon, IA and Miriam Behrens of George, IA; two brothers-in-law, William (wife, Ruth) Behrens of Broomfield, CO and Robert Sohl of Tulsa, OK; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Adele Hinsch; husband of 42 years, Arnold Behrens.
