From the Alton Democrat, January 13, 1939:

Young Girl Is Called

Little Arleen Scholtfeld[sic] died at her home on Saturday at 7 A.M. following an illness of 2˝ months of mouth infection and later pneumonia developments. She died at the age of 6 years. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Scholtfeld. Mr. Scholtfeld is employed at the R. Verschoor meat market. Burial will be made for her at Alvord, their former home.

Her death certificate has her as Arlene Lizzie Alvenia Schlotfeldt, born 20 Nov 1932 in Alvord, Lyon County; parents Raymond Schlotfeldt, born in Eldridge, Iowa, and Aldeina Lottman, born in Inwood, Iowa; died at 7:10 a.m. 7 January 1939 in Hospers, Sioux County; cause, broncho-pneumonia, onset 1/4/1939. There is an unusually long explanatory note: “Began with irregular patches of ulcerative stomatitis. A week or so later a severe pharyngitis developed complicated with coriza [allergies or hay fever] having a marked puralent discharge with fetid odor. Inflammation of salivary glands, especially the sublingual and last 3 or 4 days a broncho-pneumonia.” Total duration about 7 or 8 weeks.

Her FindaGrave.com page has the same full name; father’s full name Raymond Arthur Schlotfeldt; buried in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, Alvord. There is a photo of her headstone.
