Reverend Herman F. Hein, 65, of Waverly died early Thursday, April 29, at his home in Waverly.

He was born on April 4, 1911 in Tripp, South Dakota, the son of Reverend August and Meta Marie (Reiter) Hein. When he was young they moved to Clinton, Iowa, where he attended school and later attended Wartburg College where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1931. He then went to Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque where he received his Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 1935. Reverend Hein was then ordained in Boyden, Iowa.

On June 6, 1935 he was married to Marie Reyelts in Boyden and they served their first congregation in Olin from 1935 until 1940 when they moved to Maynard, where he served as pastor until 1945. They then moved to Sheffield until 1949 when they moved to Denver, where he served until 1952 when poor health forced his retirement and they moved to Waverly where they have lived since that time. At the time of his death he was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly.

Reverend Hein was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, two sons, Dr. Herman Hein of Iowa City and Donald Hein of Indianapolis, Indiana; one Daughter, Karen, Mrs. Donald Harwood of Robbins, Georgia; three brothers, Ray and Werner Hein, both of Clinton, and Pail Hein of Pelican Lake, Wisconsin; two sisters, Mrs. Conrad Schaff of Hastings, Nebraska and Mrs. Marie Gamb of Santa Rosa, California and by six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly with Reverend George L. Hanusa officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly.
