On Wednesday afternoon our old fellow townsman, Wiebe Dijk, died very suddenly. He was born in Wolvega Friesland, Netherlands, January 11, 1839, and had thus reached the age of almost 84 years. While still in the Netherlands, he married, which was blessed with the child, Klaas, who is now living in Platte, SD. In 1881 the family came to America, lived a year with Hospers, and went to South Dakota. In 1890 they returned to Sioux county. His wife died five years ago, and after the death of his nephew. T. L. Dyk, he made his home with his widow here. Although he hadn't been feeling too well lately, he had eaten lunch shortly before his death, and was planning to go to town for a while when death took him away. The deceased had a very amiable citizen and was honored by his many friends. He served the 1st Chr Ref Church here as elder for some years. Remains to be transported to Platte. Funeral services were not held here, as the body had to be headed away that very night. The deceased survived by two sisters: Mrs. Vander Bosch of Meppel, Neth. Mrs. Wierda in Wolveega Neth.; and a brother, Rev. Dyk, also in Neth. The family who stayed behind is assured of our participation. According to the correspondence just received from Platte, Saturday's funeral took place there under the direction of Rev. Brat.

Wiebe Dijk was born 11 Jan 1839 Wolvega, Friesland Netherlands, Wiebe was the son of Klaas Wybes Dijk 1814 and Antje Jurmens Walstra 1815, On 6 May 1862 at Weststellingwerf Friesland he married Wybrig Jochems Dijkstra, They had one known son Klaas Dijk born 17 Oct 1865 Gaasterland, Friesland.
