Mrs. Betty J. Eason, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, January 5, at 1:30pm, at the Alton Presbyterian Church in Alton. The Rev. Harlan De Jong will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation without the family will be on Tuesday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at the church.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Betty Jean was born on July 11, 1931, in San Diego, California, the daughter of Margaret (Wibiral) Gorrell Eason and Randal Gorrell, and lovingly raised by Ernest R. Eason. She grew up in San Diego, where she graduated from high school and attended the San Diego State University.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Freriks Eason on January 7, 1951, in San Diego, California. They made their home on a farm near Alton, where they raised their children and Betty was a proud homemaker and Wayne’s partner in operating their farm. In 2000, they retired and moved to Orange City. In January of 2017, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center. Wayne passed away one year later on January 26, 2018, in Orange City, after more than 67 years of marriage.

Mrs. Eason was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the women’s ministries and enjoyed volunteering. In earlier years she had been a 4H leader and judge and she served on the Alton Library Board.

Survivors include her two children, Ernest Eason, of Orange City; and Dee-Dee, and her husband, Hampton McAda, of Yorktown, Texas; four grandchildren, Erica, and her husband, Scott De Jong, of Alton; Grant Eason, and his fiancé, Sherri, of Orange City; Wayne McAda, and his fiancé, Kelly, of Kenedy, Texas; and Spenser McAda, and his wife, Susan, of San Antonio, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brooke, and Jenna De Jong.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Dawn Eason; a great-granddaughter, Allie Rae De Jong; and two sisters, Ernestine Blackburn and Lillita Sartain.
