Mr. Daniel Geiwitz, age 41, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

There will be a private family prayer service on Wednesday, December 23, at 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Garry Nyenhuis and the Rev. Jason Van Wyk will officiate. A public memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Daniel Vaughn was born on March 13, 1979, in San Diego, California, the son of David B. and Donna L. (Hoffman) Geiwitz. He grew up in southern California, where he graduated from high school.

At the age of sixteen, Dan moved to Iowa, where he found work as a machinist, and later as a truck driver for Meerdink, Inc., before enrolling in the nursing program at the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. He completed his training as a licensed practical nurse or LPN in 2003 and finished his associate degree in nursing in 2004. He has since been employed as a traveling nurse, working in numerous health care facilities throughout the country. On October 14, 2013, he was united in marriage to Nichole Leigh (Sjaarda) Severson in Orange City, where they continued to make their home.

Dan was a member of the Free Masons and had been active in the local Boy Scouts Club when his children were younger. He also enjoyed attending his children’s extracurricular activities as well as reading, fishing, and various other hobbies including photography.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Nichole, of Orange City; their five children, Brandon Sjaarda, and his fiancé, Jordan Willer, of Hawarden; Cody Severson, and his wife, Taylor, of Greeneville, Tennessee; Logan Severson, of Sheldon; Kaytelynn Severson, of Orange City; and Candice Geiwitz, of Sheldon; three grandchildren, Judson and Nova Severson, and Jameson Sjaarda; his parents, David and Donna Geiwitz, of Los Lunas, New Mexico; a brother and his wife, Christopher and Adrianna Geiwitz, of Palmdale, California; and his paternal grandmother, Hazel Fischer, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also survived by his wife’s family including her mother, Virginia, and her husband, Alan Smith, of Dallas, Texas; her stepmother, Annette Sjaarda, of Alton; her four siblings, Erin Sjaarda, and Justin Sjaarda, and his wife, Shelby, all of Sioux Falls; Jennie, and her husband, Ryan Knie, and Tyler Sjaarda, all of Alton; her maternal grandmother, Ila Schiebout, of Orange City; along with numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Shirley Fitzsimmons and Donald Hoffman; and his paternal grandfather, Lewis Geiwitz; as well as his wife’s father, Judson Sjaarda; her maternal grandfather, Christian Schiebout; and her paternal grandparents, John and Joyce Sjaarda.
