Edward Williams, 69, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service with military honors will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Mark Klompien of Hawarden Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Services will be uploaded to the funeral home website following the services.

Edward Eugene Williams was born July 13, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Stella (Shattuck) Williams. He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marines on September 21, 1972. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on September 20, 1978. Following his discharge, he made his home on a ranch near Correctionville, Iowa where he raised horses and sheep.

He enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard on July 17, 1987 and retired from the Guard on April 2, 2002. Following his discharge from the Guard, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 9, 2002 and was honorably discharged on April 15, 2003.

In 1989, he founded and directed Iowa’s Missing and Exploited Children after his niece’s disappearance.

He was united in marriage to Beth Baack on June 27, 1998. They made their home on a ranch near Hawarden.

In 1992, Ed went to work the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City. Later, he worked as a union insulator for Local 57 in Sioux City until his retirement.

Ed enjoyed hunting and camping. His greatest joy was breaking and riding horses.

Survivors include his wife, Beth of Hawarden, IA; his daughter, Jessica (Paul) Kramer of Grimes, IA, and their children, Sophie and Samantha; his son, Jason (Jen) Williams of Boone, IA; his step daughter, BriAnne Weiler of Minneapolis, MN; his brother, Charles Moore of Sioux City, IA; his in laws: Jerry Baack of Denver, CO, Kathy Erick of Las Vegas, NV, Rick (Diane) Baack of Le Mars, IA, Sue (Rick) Gabel of Akron, IA, George (Laurie) Baack of Toledo, IA, and Chris (Gene) Harms of Le Mars, IA; several nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Benie and Sam; and his herd of horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Stella Williams; his father and mother in law, Kenneth and Bonnie Baack; his in laws, Julie Baack, Tom (Janet) Baack, and Brian Baack; and a niece and nephew, Cheryl Ann Homan and Brian Gabel.
