His birthname was Jurjen de Raad.

Jerry DeRaad, the son of John and Etta (Boelman) DeRaad, was born October 11, 1904 in the Netherlands.

He immigrated with his parents to Minnesota as a small child. He received his education in Minnesota.

Jerry was united in marriage to Elizabeth Baartman, the couple made their home near Middlebury, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1954.

October 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to Tena Oldenkamp in the First Reformed Church Parsonage in Sheldon, Obrien County, Iowa. They made their home in Boyden.

Jerry owned and operated a trucking company, hauling gravel for many years. He retired in 1972, but continued to drive truck and combine while on the wheat harvest in Kansas and the Dakota's.

Jerry became a resident of the George Community Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa in 1997.

He passed away at the Center on Saturday, May 11, 2002, reaching the age of 97 years, 7 months.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Tena of George, Iowa; grand children, Arie DeRaad of St. Paul Minnesota, LaRena and her husband, Brian Buchholz of Ghent, Minnesota, Phillip DeRaad of Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota, Gary DeRaad of Boyden, Iowa, Arthur Jr. and his wife Patti DeRaad of Newton, Iowa; a step granddaughter, Ronell Hubell of Sioux Ci ty, Iowa; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Eldert DeRaad and Nanko DeRaad; 2 sisters, Minnie Molle and Dena Citurs; a sister-in-law, Marie DeRaad; and many other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Arthur DeRaad on October 8, 2000; a grandson, Terry Keith DeRaad; a step-g randdaughter, Nicole Hubbell ; and two brothers, Jack DeRaad and Earl DeRaad; two sisters, Ella Arends and Etta Arends.
