Marie Dorothea Stegemann (nee Henning) was born on the 16th of February, 1871 in Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

In June 1890, she was united in marriage with Johann Stegemann and lived in Germany until 1913 when they came to America and made their home in Boyden.

To this union eleven children were born. One died in infancy and her husband preceded her in death in October 1932.

Mrs. Stegemann enjoyed good health and was very active until about three years ago when a liver ailment set in, which gradually grew worse and she passed away at 4 o’clock Friday afternoon, January 11, at her home. Her age is 80 years, 10 months and 26 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her children: Johannes Stegemann of Charles City, Iowa; Gustav, Christine and Ida of Boyden; Emil, Margret Hinsh, Alma Kruse and Ella of Long Beach, California; Freda Ringers of Philip, South Dakota; and Walter of Trent, South Dakota; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives here and in Germany. She was a kind and loving Mother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 15 at 1:30 o’clock at the home and at 2 o’clock at St. Johns Lutheran Church north of Boyden, with Reverend Shiffler of Sheldon officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ray Brockhouse, Henry Schoetze, Fred Reimers, George Brinks, Nick De Haas and William Vagts.
