Richard Van Voorst succumbs at age 90; leaves 90 descendants

Richard Van Voorst, 326 7th St. SW. died Friday (Feb. 22, 1974) at the age of 90 at Floyd Valley hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvin Christian Reformed church, with Rev. Joel R. Boot officiating. Burial was in Sherman township cemetery at Maurice under direction of the Luken-Johnson funeral home.

Mr. Van Voorst was born April 9,1883, in the Netherlands, a son of Richard and Minnie Miller Van Voorst. He came to this country as a child with his parents and was a longtime Le Mars resident. He was a carpenter.

Mr. Van Voorst was married to Ella Boone Jan. 5,1906, at Maurice. She died in 1952. His marriage to Hattie Baker took place March 18,1953, at Pipestone, Minn.

Mr. Van Voorst is survived by his wife Hattie and 90 descendants: four sons, Richard of Merrill, John and Andrew, both of Le Mars, and Donald of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four daughters, Mrs. Jennie Dobbert of Le Mars, Mrs. Minnie Campbell of Victor, Mrs. Hennrietta Van Roekel of Rock Rapids and Mrs. Luella Droog of Jenesen, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Minie Te Napel of Ireton; 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 15 great-greatgrandchildren.

Also surviving are 12 step children. He was preceded in death by a son, his parents, six brothers and sisters and his first wife.
