Orval William Behrends was born in Lyon County, the son of Henry M. Behrends and his wife Lena Ludwig, on the second day of October, 1926. On the 24th day of the same month his parents brought him to Christ in Holy Baptism.

Little Orval enjoyed good health, prospered and grew up to the delight and joy of his parents until a week ago a bad cold took hold of him, which developed into pneumonia. A physician was summoned who pronounced the aforementioned disease, and did his level best to preserve the life of this little darling, but his time had come to depart from this vale of tears and sorrow. At 2 o’clock on Tuesday morning he drew his last breath to fall asleep in the arms of his Redeemer.

It will remind us and all who might hear of this untimely death of the words of the author: “Nearer My God, Nearer to Thee, etc.” The pilgrimage of the infant lasted only 13 months and 4 days.
