On July 29, Gatze Van Zanten passed away at the age of 72 years. We do not mourn as those who have no hope. Thank you very much to all who have assisted us so well. Mrs. Van Zanten v. D. Ems and Children. Orange City Aug 3, 1909.

Thursday died at the age of almost 72 years Mr. G. Van Zanten, residing about 3 miles north of the city. He was suffering from kidney disease and at times had to endure quite a lot of pain. He bears a wife and several children whose names are known to us only two: Mrs. Kroeze at Sheldon and Mrs. Abertus Tietema in Minn., A married daughter in California, 3 married daughters in the east, a son in the insane asylum and another son and daughter home.

The deceased came many years ago from Gastmeer, Friesland, to America with his family and settled in the east, where he spent many years. He came to Sioux County and lived for a time some miles south of the town, until a few years ago when he settled on the 20 acres belonging to P. Houtsma. He was a silent one in the land, and during his life he showed little manifestation of his faith; but in his last days he turned away from his faith in Jesus and was in great need of prayer. The burial order took place on Saturday afternoon from the church of the 1st Ger. church., And a striking discourse was delivered by Rev. Englishman in response to Luke 18 vs. 13. O God have mercy on me a sinner, which were almost the last words uttered by the deceased.
