Jacob VerSluis Jr. died of pneumonia following the influenza at the home of his parents, in Hull last Thursday and he was buried Saturday.
This is the first death in Hull or vicinity for influenza, since the epidemic appeared here, although several have been very ill his father and mother among them.

It seems too bad that a young life like this should be so suddenly taken, the old saying is that the old must die and the young may die. An obituary will be in next paper if we can get one.

Jacob VerSluys was born in Hull February 21, 1899 and died October 31, 1918 being at the time of this death 19 years 8 months and 10 days of age.

Jakie was never a strong boy he having had lung fever five different times and three of those time he was near death’s door, but he rallied and seemed the last two years of his life to have been getting better and stronger.

On Monday Oct 21, 1918 he went to Orange City with his father, to be examined physically for army service. He was in the first class of the new draft and was said to be well. But here, again God’s well was other than our’s. Jakie took sick Tuesday October 22nd at first with influenza, and then pneumonia set in, of which he died on Thursday evening October 31, at 6:45.

Only his mother and brother Garret, were at his bedside, when he died, his sister and husband having departed for their home a hour before and the father being too sick. The funeral took place on Saturday Afternoon Nov 2, at 2:30 with services at the grave. Conducted by Rev. Bouma.
