Former Resident Of Grant Died Last Week In Hawarden

Hawarden Independent; M. J. Rohlfs, a resident of Hawarden for about a year and a half, passed away at his home at 4 o'clock Wednesday (August 14, 1946) afternoon following an illness of five years.

Mr. Rohlfs was in an accident five years ago and as a result, he had a leg amputated. For the past two and a half years he was bedfast, the first half of which he was in a Sioux City hospital. A year ago, last April, Mr. and Mrs. Rohlfs purchased a residence in Hawarden, and he was brought here and his wife cared for him during this time.

Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and at St. John's Lutheran Church at Craig at 3 o'clock, with Rev. E. Voelker in charge. Interment will be in the church cemetery there.

Mine Rohlfs was born in Monticello, Iowa, and came to Plymouth county when a child. He was married to Minnie Henrich of Le Mars in 1907. For 30 years they lived on a farm in Grant township, Plymouth county.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Walter of Sioux City; Roland of Akron and Alvin of Ireton and one daughter, Mrs. George Hartman of Hawarden; two brothers, Fred and John Rohlfs, of Craig and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Reichel and Mrs. Elsie Olofs of LeMars. There are four grandchildren.
