Mrs. Hildred Pluim Vande Berg, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, August 20, at 2:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Vande Zande will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a private family prayer service on Thursday, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Hildred was born on November 25, 1930, in Orange City, the daughter of Herbert and Jessie (Kroeze) Huisman. She was raised in rural Orange City and graduated from the Newkirk Consolidated School.

On November 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harvey Pluim, in Orange City, where they made their home and raised their four children. Harvey and “Hilly” established Pluim Publishing and Northwest Realty, both in Orange City. Harvey passed away suddenly on September 15, 1982, after more than 30 years of marriage.

Hilly and Maurice J. Vande Berg were married on June 12, 1986, in Orange City, where they continued to make their home. “Morry” passed away on August 24, 2017, in Orange City, after more than 31 years of marriage. Shortly after Morry’s death Hilly became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. Earlier this year, she moved to the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Hilly was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. She enjoyed playing card games (which she was very competitive), reading, and in her younger years, bowling.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Linda and Robert Hulstein; Daniel and Belinda Pluim; Lisa and Kevin Tesch; and Dale and Jill Pluim, all of Orange City; thirteen grandchildren, Nikki (Greg) Terpstra, Benji (Amy) Hulstein, Alissa (Jay) Schuiteman, Sarah (Paul) Birnbaum, Josh (Dana) Pluim, Caleb (Sarah) Pluim, Kelvin (Bridget) Tesch, Kurtis (Erin) Tesch, Kody Tesch, Klayton (Jessica) Tesch, Amber (Luke) Perry, JD (Nicole) Pluim, and Autumn Vorwald, 30 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Ken Huisman and Marve Huisman.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four siblings, William Huisman, Etta Van Steenwyk, Gerrit Huisman, and Stan Huisman.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
