From the Sioux County Capital, February 3, 1938:

Abstractor Dies

C. M. Severin, who was taken ill just two weeks ago today, died Tuesday evening at about seven o’clock in a local hospital of double pneumonia. Private funeral services will be held today in the Van Etten Funeral Home. The body will then be taken to Davenport, Iowa.

ABSTRACTOR SEVERIN PASSES TUESDAY

Death claimed C. M. Severin, attorney and abstractor for the Sioux Abstract Co., at an Orange City hospital at 7:30 Tuesday evening. Mr. Severin was 67 years of age, coming here from Davenport a number of years ago to take the position he had since held with the abstract company.

He is survived by his wife and three children. Mrs. W. G. Carlton of Wichita, Kansas, was here when her father passed on and the two sons, Hugh of California and Reed of Pennsylvania were expected Wednesday. Arrangements have been made for services at the Van Etten funeral home this Thursday morning after which the remains will be taken to Mr. Severin’s old home in eastern Iowa.

He was of a quiet, studious disposition, going about his business in methodical, conscientious manner, and will be greatly missed by his associates and the warm friends the couple have made since coming to Sioux county.

Mr. Severin was born in Moline, Ill., and in 1897 married Miss Maude Cralle there, the couple then settling in Davenport where their three children, Reed, of Pittsburg, Pa., Hugh of San Francisco, and Mrs. Carlton were born. He is also survived by two sisters, Miss Lillian Severin of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. A. R. Ammerman of Des Moines.

Funeral services this morning are in charge of Rev. L. Nattress at 11 o;clock and at Davenport services will be held later when the family will be together. Interment will be at Davenport.

Mr. Severin was a member of the Sioux Abstract Co. firm for the past four years. After the services in Davenport Mrs. Severin and her daughter will return to Orange City.

C. M. SEVERIN, 65, FORMER DAVENPORT ATTORNEY IS DEAD

C. M. Severin, for 30 years an attorney with the Lane & Waterman law firm, Davenport, died at his home in Orange City, Ia., following a short illness with pneumonia. He was about 65 years of age. Until four years ago Mr. Severin had resided at 28 Oak lane. He moved to Orange City in 1933 where he was employed by the Sioux Abstract Co.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Hugh, San Francisco, Calif.; Reed, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. William Carleton, Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Bert Severin, Des Moines, and a sister, Miss Lillian Severin, Evanston, Ill.

The body will arrive at the Hill and Fredericks mortuary Friday morning and services will be held Saturday afternoon.

From the Quad City Times (Davenport, Iowa), February 3, 1938:

C. M. SEVERIN, EX-RESIDENT OF CITY, DIES

Funeral services for C. M. (Con) Severin, former Davenporter and for the past four years secretary of the Sioux Abstract Co., Orange City, Ia., were held Thursday in Orange City. The body will be brought to Davenport for burial.

Prior to his removal to Orange City, Mr. Severin was for 30 years head of the mortgage loan department of the law firm of Lane & Waterman. He was admitted to the Iowa bar before leaving this city.

His death occurred Tuesday, according to word received here, and followed an attack of pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and three children, Hugh, Reid, and Bernice.

The Severin Funeral

Funeral services for Conrad M. Severin who died Thursday, were held in the Hill and Frederick chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. W. H. Upton officiating. Entombment was in the Oakdale mausoleum. Bearers were Herbert Sitz, James Lamb, A. E. Carroll, John Hornby, W. T. Watermann and F. J. MacLaughlin.

His death certificate has Conrad M. Severin; born July 25, 1871 in Galva, Illinois; parents Martin Severin and Elizabeth Moberg, both born in Sweden; wife Maude M. Severin; occupation, abstractor; died in Orange City at 6:25 p.m. February 1, 1938; cause, left lobar pneumonia, onset Jan. 20, and right lobar pneumonia, onset Jan. 28; buried in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, Ill.

His FindaGrave.com page has him as Conrad Martin Severin; born 1871 in Illinois; died 1 Feb 1938 in Orange City; buried in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport, Iowa; wife Maude M. Cralle Severin (1874-1959). There is a photograph of their joint headstone.
