Grandma Jahn, widow of William Jahn died Friday morning, March 6, 1915 at an early hour at the home of her son, Fred, north of Struble, after a brief siege of pneumonia of only a week’s duration. Had she lived until August 20th she would have been 83 years old.Caroline Jahn was born in Prussia, Germany, and came to this country in 1867, locating for a short time in Clayton County IA, but soon after moved to this vicinity, then yet a new country. They owned the Byron Peebles farm four miles west of Struble, for many years.
Mrs. Jahn was the mother of five children, namely; Dick and Mrs. Spenas of Struble, Fred, of Maurice, William, of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Mrs. Lizzie Lentz of Wadena MN, who were all present at the bedside of their beloved mother. Mrs. Jahn was a devout member of the St. John’s Lutheran church and here, where she spent most of her life, was recognized and esteemed as a good, noble Christian woman, one who at all times sought to do her duty to God and her fellow beings.
The writer has known her for fifteen years and always believed that she was a true Christian Mother and followed closely the steps of the meek and lowly Nazarene.
The funeral will be held today at one p.m. from the house and at two o’clock at the church in Reading Township. Rev. C. d. Nuofer officiated.
Research note: Wilhelm Friedrich Jahn born 2 Se 1828 Klienbeuster, Germany died 29 Aug 1889 Struble, Plymouth County IA, he married Caroline Peters born 20 Aug 1833 born in Baden Wuerttemberg, Germany died 3 March 1915 Struble buried in Ireton Sioux County IA. They two children named were , Diedrich Friedrich Jahn 1860-1943 and Paulina Jahn Spenas 1862 – 1926
