Gregory Allen Van Grootheest, 58, of Smithville, MO (formerly Belton) was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2019.
Greg was born 10/16/60 in Hudson, SD and grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa. After high school, Greg went to school for an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, later receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering from UMKC. He moved to Kansas City to go to work for Bendix (which later became Honeywell), where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in September 2019.
Greg is survived by his wife Michelle of Smithville, son Matt (Rebekah) Brown, Chris (Teresa) Brown, Jennifer (Eli) Gough, step-children Chris (Jennifer) Skinner, Zack (Michele) Skinner, Mallory Skinner and Ethan (Kyla) Skinner, mother and father Gerrit and Jeanette Van Grootheest, grandmother Chris Kersbergen, sisters Sue (Allen) Fitch, Carol (David) Broesder, 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Greg loved country music, fishing, traveling and most of all spending time with family. He was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Services will be held at Rock Brook Church, 1715 E 173rd St., Belton, MO 64012 on Monday, October 7, 2019. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kansas City Hospice Foundation at KCHF, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
