Mr. Evan Haarsma, age 57, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Thursday, June 25, at 10:30am at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation without the family will be on Wednesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The family will be in the Windmill Park on Wednesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, for those that would like to visit with them.

Evan Kent was born on March 8, 1963, in Orange City, the son of Eugene and Winifred Faye (Kuiper) Haarsma. He attended the Orange City Christian School, Unity Christian High School in Orange City, and Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

As an adult, Evan lived in Hawarden, Rock Valley, and Orange City. He worked for Russell’s Ready Mix and Vander Pol Excavating, both in Orange City, and for B&B Plumbing and Heating in Sioux Center. He also did construction work with his father.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horse, and spending time with his brothers and sister and their families. He also liked spending time on his brother’s and uncle’s farms. He was very good at fixing and repairing just about anything and loved to go for rides in the country.

Survivors include his siblings, Alan Haarsma, and his wife, Joyce, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Diana, and her husband, David Kooima, of Hull; and Brent Haarsma, and his wife, Stacy, of Maurice; five nephews; twelve nieces; and many aunts and uncles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-niece, Jemma Jean De Jong.

Memorials may be directed to the Redeemer United Reformed Church.
