Beloved Citizen Passes Away
Henry J. Schumacher passed away at his home here after an extended sickness on Monday, May 15. Cause, pulmonary tuberculosis. He was 31 years and two months of age. His hundreds of friends grieve.

Henry J. was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Schumacher and he was born in Kaundorf in the grand duchy of Luxemburg on March 14, 1885. He journeyed to the United States with his brothers when he was 20 years old, coming to Sioux county seven years ago. With his brother Nic, he bought the blacksmith shop of Peter Kass and in his death Nic loses an intelligent and highly efficient partner. For a number of years past, Henry specialized in installing electric light plants throughout this section of the county and the large number of such plants in this section attests his marked success. He was also a musician of no mean ability. He was the leader of St. Mary's fine choir and had a beautiful voice and also was a skilled player of the flute. Mr. Schumacher was well read and one of the broadest minded and most clear thinking men in Alton. On November 7, 1911, here in Alton he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Bonneville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Bonneville, and to them two sons were born.

A host of friends and relatives from this section and distant points attended the funeral held from St. Mary's church at 9 A.M., Wednesday. They included many from Granville, Hospers ad Remsen. John Lorang of Lismore, Minn., M.V. Ruppert, John Ruppert and Mrs. Mary Ruppert of Currie, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Math Ruppert and Mrs. Lucy Oberecken of LeMars, Mrs. Adolph Molitor and children of Walla Walla, Wash., Jos. Weiskircher, B. Hoefler, R. Probst, J. Nemmers, Math Goergen, Mrs. D. Goergen and Paul Diederich of Granville.

He is survived by his wife and sons, Paul and Francis, by four brothers, Joseph of Granville, Nic of Alton, Peter of Kaundorf, Luxemburg, John Siebenaler of Kaundorf, and his sister, Mrs. Mike Goergen of Granville.

In the death of Henry Schumacher the community has lost a good citizen, the home a kind and loving husband and father, the church a loyal and devoted son. Through his long sickness and suffering his unfailing patience and good nature was a source of inspiration to all. His only thought was for the loved ones who he would leave behind. We shall all miss him, the faithful friend, the loving father. He so bright, so cheerful, so unselfish, constantly mindful of the comfort and welfare of others. Truly his life has been an inspirations, not only to his wife and children who shall call him blessed, but to all who knew him.
