Mr. Martin De Wit, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at his residence.

There will be a private funeral service on Tuesday, May 26, at 11:00am at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Vande Zande will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation without the family will be on Monday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Martin Roy was born on August 16, 1937, in Rock Valley, the son of Henry John and Frances (Vanden Bosch) De Wit. He was raised in Rock Valley and Inwood.

He was united in marriage to Joy Marie Van Oort on November 15, 1957, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Doon. They made their home in Middleburg and Orange City. Marty worked at Diamond Vogel Paint in Orange City but spent most of his adult life working as a carpenter. He and Joy liked to travel together and with their siblings as well as taking vacations with their children. Joy passed away on July 21, 2016, in Hull, after more than 58 years of marriage.

“Bud” was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City where he had been a Cadet leader for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting John Deere memorabilia, and selling Watkins Products.

Survivors include his six children and their spouses, Arlan and June De Wit, of Boyden; Rhonda and Gerald Postma, of Ireton; Robert and Laurie De Wit, of Jewell; Lyle and Pam De Wit, of Ireton; Loren and Julie De Wit, of Orange City; and Amy and Bill Davis, of Maurice; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; his siblings, John De Wit, and his wife, Greta, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lee, and her husband, Don Jongerius, of Orange City; Gert, and her husband, Cornie Hibma, of Washington State; Ed De Wit, of Inwood; and Linda, and her husband, Simon Kooiman, of Ontario, Canada; two sisters-in-law, Henny Van Oort, of Rock Valley, and Shirley Rens, of Hull; a brother-in-law, Vern Van Oort, of Doon; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Ruth and Mart Halma; three brothers-in-law, Ed Driesen, Joe Van Oort, and Gerald Rens; and two sisters-in-law, Mona De Wit and Sharon Van Oort.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice and the First Christian Reformed Church.
