Jacob (Jake) Tammenga ; Jacob (Jake) Diedrich Tammenga, 88, longtime Union township farmer, now retired, died Thursday (July 20, 1972) at Floyd Valley hospital after a brief illness. He entered the hospital the previous day. His address was rural Remsen. He was born Aug. 7, 1883, in Hamilton, N.Y., the son of Dirk Richard and Gertrude Tammenga. He was married Aug. 4, 1928, to Louise Barnort at Minneapolis. The couple lived in Plymouth, Sioux and O'Brien counties and had farmed in Union township, Plymouth county since 1929. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mauer funeral chapel with Rev. James D. Ransom officiating. Burial will be in the Hospers cemetery at Hospers under direction of the Mauer funeral home. He is survived by his wife Louise of rural Remsen and a son Richard Charles Tammenga, also of rural Remsen. Mr. Tammenga was a member of the Reformed church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Tracy; an infant son, a brother and four sisters.

Research note: Jake Tammenga’s parents were Dirk Jochums Tamminga 1846-1927 and Grietje Rispens 1854-1927 Jake and wife Tracy were the parents of one son Dirk who died in 1913.
