James "Jim" Driesen, 67, died suddenly on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden. Reverend Todd Bunge will officiate. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden.

James LeRoy Driesen was born June 3, 1942 in Rock Valley, Iowa to Edward and Elsiena (Kooima) Driesen. He attended Rock Valley Christian School. Jim began farming with his father and brothers. Jim was united in marriage to Janene Winter on August 29, 1962 in Rock Valley. He continued farming near Rock Valley until moving to farm near Ireton in 1968. In 1978 they moved to Hawarden, Iowa, where Jim began working for Truesdall Ford/Heartland Motors where he was presently still working. When Jim reached 65 years of age, he thought he could retire but he could not just give up his work. He enjoyed talking to people. In his spare time he tractor pulled with his son, Brian and grandson, Lukas. Something he loved to share with them. Jim enjoyed watching NASCAR, Sprint Car Racing and working in his yard and with his flowers.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janene; four children: Brian (Teressa) Driesen of Alcester, South Dakota, Lisa (Paul) Janssen, Rick (Shelly) Driesen all of Hawarden, Iowa and Joshua Driesen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eight grandchildren: Derrik (Amber) Kingma of Edmonds, Oklahoma, Rachael (Dustin) Houlton, Holly (Nick) Van Oort all of Ireton, Ipwa, Lukas Driesen of Alcester, South Dakota, Colby Janssen, Sutton Janssen, Levi Driesen and Elizabeth Driesen all of Hawarden, Iowa; four great-grandchildren: Charles Houlton, Oliver Houlton, Karsen Van Oort and Kolton Van Oort; six brothers: Sam (Joan) Driesen of Rock Valley, Iowa, Harlan (Priscilla) Driesen of Doon, Iowa, Duane (Sue) Driesen of Cherokee, Iowa, Glenn (Cindy) Driesen of Aurelia, Iowa, Arlo Driesen and Lyle Driesen both of Alton, Iowa; one sister, Joann (Larry) Bauder of Hawarden, Iowa; four sisters-in-law: Arlene Driesen and Florence Vink both of Rock Valley, Iowa, Carolyn Henderson of Beresford, South Dakota and Rose Winter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four brothers-in-law: Darwin (Donnis) Winter of Des Moines, Iowa, Marlo (Liz) Winter of Sun City, Arizona, Tom (Fran) Winter of Canton, South Dakota and Lanny (Shirley) Winter of Boyden, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Allen and Ted Driesen; one brother-in-law, Gary Winter.
