Jean Isabel Waterbury was born May 31, 1923 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of J. Gus and Celia (Fairbrother) Anderson. She attended school in Hawarden and graduated from Hawarden High School. Following graduation, she moved near family in Wheaton, Illinois. She worked at a Military Defense Plant during WWII. Following the war, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she lived with her sister and worked for an insurance company.
Later, she moved back to Hawarden, where she met her future husband, Marlo Waterbury. She and Marlo were united in marriage on April 20, 1947 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. They farmed in Union County, South Dakota, just west of Chatsworth, Iowa. In the early 60's, they moved to Sioux City, where they owned and operated Waterbury Taxidermy. In 1966, they moved to McCook Lake, South Dakota. Later, she and Marlo operated Tri-State Janitorial. After retiring, they continued living in McCook Lake. Marlo passed away August 29, 2003.
Jean enjoyed shopping and traveling with her husband for their business. She also enjoyed reading, riding her bike, and going for pontoon rides on the lake. She was avid collector of chicken and rooster memorabilia. She also enjoyed collecting watering cans. She loved her Siamese cats. But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
