Died: 1949Andrew W. Lind, 89, a resident of Union County and Alcester for 51 years, died shortly before midnight last Wednesday at his farm home west of Hawarden.. He suffered a stroke preceding his death.
Andrew W. Lind was born April 28, 1860 at Vestmanland, Sweden, the youngest of a family of eight children. He came to America in 1888, the only one of his family to take this adventurous step.
Mr. Lind located at Boone, Iowa, where he was employed by the North Western Railroad as a carpenter. There he married Anna Olson July 7, 1892. In the spring of 1898 the family went to Union County, locating on the farm west of Hawarden, now occupied by the Arthur Lind family.
In 1920 Mr. Lind retired and he and his wife moved to Alcester where he lived five years. He returned to near his farm home and built the home he occupied for the past 24 years. His wife preceded him in death in 1933. A daughter and son also preceded him in death. While at Boone, Mr. Lind joined the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Paul and Arthur, both of Alcester; two daughters, Miss Ann Lind of Alcester and Mrs. Esther Wohlenberg of Hawarden and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on the farm home lawn at 2:30 Saturday with burial at Alcester, Reverend B. Roy Brown of the Methodist Church of Hawarden was in charge of the service. Ross Eaton of Alcester, with Edna De Remer as accompanist, sang “Prayer Perfect” and “My Work is Done.” Pallbearers were Elmer Stroshane, Henry Peterson, Oscar Elving, John Holmdahl, Carl Ericson and Walter Jensen.
