Alice Cooper Ericson, 95, of Mission, Texas died December 4, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A. M. on Friday, May 15, at Alcester Baptist Church.

Alice was born July 8, 1913 at Hawarden, the daughter of Irwin and Maude Cooper. Alice grew up near Hawarden, attending rural school and graduating from Hawarden High School. After graduating she attended Iowa State Teacher’s College at Cedar Falls, Normal School, and the University of South Dakota.

Alice married Mylo Ericson on August 6, 1938. They farmed and she continued her teaching career which spanned over 50 years, teaching in Iowa and South Dakota. After moving to California she taught at Rossmore School where she was honored as “Teacher of the Year.”

After retiring in 1977 they moved back to Alcester and Alice taught at Wessington Springs and Lower Brule, South Dakota. They wintered in Texas where she continued to teach.

Alice was a member of the Alcester Baptist Church. Mylo died on May 18, 1994

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Ericson of Alcester and Mission, Texas; a son Sydney Ericson and wife Marion of Brea, California; three grandchildren, Michael, Axel and Orum Ericson; one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Ericson; her sister-in-law, Betty Cooper of Alcester; nieces Becky Rus and her husband Marion of Rock Valley, Belinda Fink and her husband Rick and family of Harrisburg, Barbara Von Hampen and her husband Deeter and son from Council Bluffs; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mylo; and one brother, Byron Cooper.
