From the Hawarden Independent, May 6, 1937:

FATHER OF MRS. LUBSEN DIES

Rudolph Jacobsma, father of Mrs. P. J. Lubsen of Hawarden, passed away at his home at Orange City last Thursday. He was 76 years of age and had lived in Orange City for 54 years, the last 49 of which were spent in the same home. Mr. Jacobsma was born in the Province of Friesland, Netherlands, Jan. 26, 1861, and grew to young manhood there. On Jan. 27, 1882, he was united in marriage with Miss Sjoukje Nicolai Te Opeinde in the Netherlands and two weeks after their marriage they sailed for America and upon their arrival located at Orange City. Four children were born to them but one daughter, Sarah, passed away Nov. 2, 1918. He is survived by his aged wife; one son, Adam Jacobsma of Parker, S.D., and two daughters, Mrs. P. J. Lubsen of Hawarden and Mrs. James E. Den Hartog Jr. of Orange City. He also leaves four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two younger brothers, Henry Jacobsma of Orange City and Simon Jacobsma of Sibley.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the American Reformed Church in Orange City with Rev. H. H. Kuiper in charge and interment was made at Orange City. Mr. and Mrs. Lubsen attended the funeral and their son, Rudolph Lubsen of Lamoni, Iowa, was also here and accompanied his parents to the funeral.

RUURD JACOBSMA

Ruurd Jacobsma passed away at his home on Thursday April 29, 1937 after a lingering illness. He was born in The Netherlands on Jan. 21, 1861. He came to America in 1883. He was employed in the Van Eizenga Lumber yard for 17 years. Served as janitor of the Christian School for 12 years, resigning his work at Christmas in 1935. He lived in the same house for 49 years. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Jennie, Mrs. P. J. Lubsen of Hawarden; Jeanette, Mrs. James E. Den Hartog of Orange City and a son Adam Jacobsma of Parker, S. Dak. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home and the Protestant Reformed church, Rev. H. Kuiper officiating.

In the 1910 (Ruurd) census he is a teamster for a lumber yard; he can now speak English. In 1920 (Rurt) he is a lumber and coal wagon driver.
