Mrs. Gunilla Smith was born on August 14, 1843, In Slemminge, Malmohuslan, Sweden, and came to America in November 1903. Ever since her arrival in this country, she has resided with her husband south of Marcus until a few months ago when illness made it necessary to transfer her to a hospital.

She passed away last Sunday morning, January 8 at 12:3 0 o'clock at the state hospital in Cherokee, being the age of 78 years 4 months and 24 days.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. John D. Smith, three sons, and two daughters, of whom one son, Daniel Smith, and two daughters, Mrs. John Bengston and Mrs. Nels Anderson, live in Marcus; one son Peter Smith lives in Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Swan Hanson and Mrs. Nels Peterson live in South Dakota; one son and one daughter, John Smith and Mrs. Nicholas Hollar live south of Remsen.

In addition to these named there are thirty-one grandchildren and various other relative and friends
