Funeral Service for John Daniel Smith
Aged Gentleman Was His Eight-sixth Year

Simple funeral service for John Daniel Smith were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nicholas Hollar, located eight miles south and four miles west of Marcus at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning. Rev Carl A. Bengston of Carmel Lutheran church officiated and used for his text. John 9:1-7. His subject, was "Lessons Learned from Suffering" Two songs were sung: "Rock of Aces" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul."

The following grandchildren acted ns pallbearers Howard Floyd and Glen Hansen, Raymond Hollar, Alfred Bengtson and Emit Anderson. Interment was made In Marcus cemetery.

Obituary

John Daniel Smith was born in Slimminge Parish, Malmohuslan Sweden, September 17, 1841, and died at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Nicholas Hollar, south east of Remsen, May 16, 1927 at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 29 days. He was united in- marriage with Gunilla Pearson, who preceded him in death five years ago. In 1903 he came to America, and had since then resided in this community.

The nearest of his relatives are the following sons and daughters.

Dan Smith of Marcus, Peter Smith of Nevada, Mrs. John Bengtson, of Cherokee, Mrs. Nels Anderson, of Marcus, Mrs. Nels Peterson of Sioux City, Mrs. Swan Hanson of Remsen, Mrs. Nicholas Hollar of Remsen; also 34 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He Is also mourned by a large number of other friends. During the last few years, he had suffered seemingly more than his share of sickness and bodily pain. He longed for his release by the Lord which came last Monday forenoon.
