Alice Vugteveen, 81, a school cook, died Tuesday, May 9, 1995, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

Alice De Smet was born July 27, 1913, in Rock Valley. She attended St. Mary's School in Rock Valley. She married Gerrit Vugteveen on October 25, 1937, in Rock Valley. He died July 3,1944. She continued to live in Rock Valley after her husband's death, where she worked at the Rock Valley Public School as a cook.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild.

She is survived by one son, Jim of Monnouth, Illinois; one daughter, Dolores Reith of Kettering, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Remmerde of Sioux Falls.

Services were Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was Friday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
