Luella A. Schiltz, 93, of Le Mars passed away Friday, June 13, 2008 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Larry Fett officiating. Visitations with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the funeral home. Interment will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Reading Township, rural Ireton, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com. Memorials can be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ireton or Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Pallbearers will be Andy Barber, Scott Besson, Bob Boyd, John Chandler, Nick Griffin, Brent Peterson, Clint Peterson, Scott Siege, Shane Siege, and Steve Siege.

Luella Alida Vander Hamm was born May 30, 1915 on the family farm in Reading Township, rural Sioux County, Iowa to Ernest and Cena (Nanninga) Vander Hamm. She was baptized on June 20, 1915 and confirmed on September 1, 1929 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ireton. She attended country school in Reading Township and graduated from Ireton High School in 1933 and attended Western Union College in Le Mars. She taught country school near Craig and at a school in Reading Township.

Luella was united in marriage to Silas Siege on July 9, 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Reading Township. She and Silas farmed in Sherman Township. Luella also taught country school for the first years of their marriage before staying home to raise her family. Following the death of Silas on March 8, 1964, Luella continued to live on the farm until November of 1966 when she moved to Le Mars.

She continued her education by attending Westmar College and graduated in 1966. She taught at Maurice before beginning her career with the Le Mars Community School District in 1961. She taught 6th grade until her retirement in 1978. Luella was united in marriage to Irvin Schiltz on June 20, 1970 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Irvin passed away on March 8, 2000. After moving to Le Mars in 1966, Luella joined Grace Lutheran Church. Luella was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on the original building committee for the existing church. She also enjoyed quilting and loved to travel. She and Irvin enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona.

On June 29, 2003, Luella moved to Fieldcrest in Sheldon and on May 18, 2006 she moved to the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Survivors include 2 children: Roma Boyd and her husband John of Le Mars and their family Cindy (Brent) Peterson, Bob Boyd, Rona (Clint) Peterson, and Cena (Andy) Barber; Larry Siege and his wife Barb of Maurice and their family Steve (Lori) Siege, Scott (Lynn) Siege, Shane Siege, and Shelley (Scott) Besson; a daughter-in-law and her husband Ruth and Roger Reppert of Spirit Lake and their family Lisa (Nick) Griffin, Julie Siege, Pamela (John) Chandler; 22 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lela Molmen of Sheldon and Marcella Carl of Sanborn; a brother-in-law, Dale Brunk of Sheldon; 5 stepchildren: Illa Jean Lawsen and her husband Dennis, Sharon Manion and her husband Michael, Diane Dreckman and her husband Larry, Keith Schiltz and his wife Deb, and Mary Larson and her husband Bryan; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law: Alvina Singer, Lorraine Mohan, and Kathryne Welter; and several nieces and nephews.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son Leo Siege on July 13, 1994 and 2 sisters, Maxine Boom and Neva Jean Brunk.
