CASE VER HOEF, RESIDENT OF ALTON, PASSED ON LAST SATURDAY

Cornelius (Case) Ver Hoef, lifelong resident of this vicinity, passed on at his home in Alton Saturday morning, November 17, at 1:30 a.m. he was 66 years and 8 months of age at the time of his death and had been ill for several years, having been at the Iowa City Hospital twice within the last year or two.

He was born March 15, 1879, at Orange City, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ver Hoef, having been early settlers in that vicinity.

He married Johanna De Roos, September 21, 1905, at the bride's home near Hull. The couple farmed in the Boyden-Hull vicinity for several years and moved to Alton in 1928 with their family. They lived here continuously since that time except for a few years spent at Sheldon.

Surviving are Mrs. Ver Hoef and five children; Mrs. Lawrence Miller (Catherine), Paullina; Orville, Sheldon; Walter, Alton; Mrs. Kenneth C. Scholten (Tillie), Bellflower, California; Pvt. Matthew, now in Manila; two brothers, John Ver Hoef of Orange City and Jim of Sioux Center; one sister, Mrs. Ed Diekevers, Boyden; nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at the First Reformed Church of Alton in charge of Reverend Hesselink. Special music included a solo by Beulah Dorr and selections by a quartet of Mrs. Ver Hoef's nephews, who were Bernie and Clarence Ver Hoef of Sioux Center, Sam Ver Hoef of Rock Valley, Lester Foreman of Carnes.

Mr. Ver Hoef was a kindly man, devoted to his family and friends, of whom he had many. Large groups of relatives and friends attended the services, coming from Hull, Boyden, Sioux Center, Spencer and Sioux City.

Interment was made in the Orange City Cemetery in the family plot where his parents rest.
