From the Sioux County Capital March 4, 1937:

Dick Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center died Tuesday in a local hospital. The young man was born in Barseveld, the Netherlands, October 4, 1906. Surviving are his wife and three small children; his mother Mrs. A. Kraayenbrink; four brothers, Albert of Sioux Center, Henry of Doon, John of Orange City and Ben of Sioux Center; two sisters Mrs. Kaeningk of Stickney, So. Dak., Mrs. J. Hofland of Sanborn.

Funeral services were held Friday at Middleburg and interment was made in Sioux Center

DICK KRAAYENBRINK, 30 YEAR OLD FARMER, DIES

Dick Kraayenbrink, 30 years of age, well known farmer residing near Middleburg, died in the Orange City hospital at 7 a.m. Tuesday following an operation for cancer. He is survived by his wife, three young children, his mother, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Ref. Church at Middleburg. Rev. Mausen and Rev. Colenbrander will have charge of the services. The body will be interred in the Sioux Center cemetery.

His death certificate has Dick Kraayenbrink; wife Ethel Kraayenbrink; born Oct. 5, 1906 in the Netherlands; in the U.S. 25 years; father Henry Kraayenbrink; a farmer, 10 years in this occupation; died at 7 a.m. February 23, 1937; cause, embryonic ca [cancer] of left testicle, generalized metastisis liver, onset about June 1936.

His FindaGrave.com gives his birth date as 4 Oct 1906 in Gelderland, Netherlands (but the attached photo of his headstone has dates 1907-1937). Wife Ethel Wiersma Vande Kamp (1906-1988). Two children listed: Asa J. Kraayenbrink (1927-1998) and Alyda Helen Kraayenbrink Wassenaar (1930-2010). His wife’s FindaGrave page says she married Albert Vande Kamp in 1970.

The 1925 Iowa state census shows his parents as Henry Kraayenbrink and Lidia Neyman.

The 1920 U.S. census gives his immigration year as 1912. The 1930 census for Plato Township, Sioux County shows Dick (23), a farm laborer, immigrated in 1906, married at age 20; wife Ethel (23), born in Iowa, and son Asa J. (2).

WieWasWie.nl has a birth register index entry for Derk Kraaijenbrink, father Hendrik Kraaijenbrink, age 40, a farmer, mother Aleida Elisa Nijman, born 5 August 1906 in Wisch, Gelderland.

Their marriage record has groom Dick Kraayenbrink, age next birthday 21, resident of Sioux Center, occupation farming, born in the Netherlands, parents Henry Kraayenbrink and Alida Nyman; bride Ethel Wiersma, age next birthday 21, resident of Orange City, born in Sioux Center, parents Eise Wiersma and Johanna De Vries; married at Orange City June 6, 1927.
