Mrs. Geo. Mlasger and Mr. Fred Starkweather Jr. received the sad news on Friday of the death of their half-brother, Mr. Art Mahoney at San Francisco. Many people here remember Art as a young man. He was a Spanish War veteran and the post there had charge of funeral arrangements.

RESEARCH NOTES

The California Death Index has James A. Mahoney, died in San Francisco County, 21 Jan 1937, age 60.

The Boyden Reporter was searched for “Mahoney” for the years 1890-1936. There were many results for Mahoney family members, especially Edward G. Mahoney and family. but none that appeared to pertain to James or Art/Arthur.

It is likely that he was a son of Mary Crowder (Mrs. F. L.) Starkweather, who died in 1912 in Jackson County, Minnesota. Her first husband was Edward Mahoney, with whom she had three sons, Edward, Percy, and Arthur. Edward seems to be Edward G. Mahoney of Boyden. One of the children from her second marriage was “Freddie” Starkweather. See her obituary, posted separately.
