Funeral services were held in the First Reformed Church at Hospers Friday afternoon for Miss Mary Van Zyl, who passed away at the State Hospital in Cherokee on Monday, May 31, 1943 following a major operation. Reverend Mr. G. Docter had charge of the services and burial was made in the Hospers Cemetery.

Mary Van Zyl was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius and Helena (Van Es) Van Zyl and was born in Hospers on November 2, 1910. She lived in Hospers for years and later moved with her parents to Sheldon where she attended school and graduated from the Sheldon High School. She later attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Being in poor health she stayed at home until the death of her mother. Then she lived with the Bert Van Zyl family and later lived in Orange City and Hawarden.

She is survived by two brothers, Dr. G. Van Zyl of Holland, Michigan and C. Van Zyl of Gresham, Oregon; three sisters: Lena, Mrs. W. Wesselink of Gresham, Oregon; Kate, Mrs. Joe Hoffs of Hospers; and Jean, Mrs. E. Rackes of Holland, Michigan; all of whom were present at the services. A brother, Bert, and a sister Tillie preceded her in death.
