From the Sioux Center News, December 17, 1936:

MRS. HOGAN DIED IN DENVER

Word was received here by relatives of the death of Mrs. John Hogan in Denver Monday morning. The cause of her death was not definitely determined before her sons Cy and Ray left here to attend the funeral which will be today in Prairie View, Kansas. She is survived by thirteen children. Cy and Ray Hogan and Paul Van Donge left here Wednesday morning for Prairie View to attend the last rites.

Last Thurs. the interment of Mrs. John Hogan took place. She passed away at a Denver hospital Monday morning. This family has resided here for nearly 50 years. Mrs. Hogan, the daughter of John Brands and Fannie Hardlooper, came with her parents to this country when she was a little girl of 15, and in June of ’82 she was married to Jno. Hogan. Their union was blessed with 15 children. One died while yet an infant; another one married Art Van Greuningen and died in 1910. 13 children survive Mrs. Hogan; also 35 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. For a number of years she has been suffering with diabetes, and last week she passed away after an operation on her eyes for cataracts. She was almost 73. Her husband died in October, 1910[??], and reached the age of 69. Their children are Elias, John and Hanna Van Kooten, who live here; Tone, Dina and Cecil of Denver; Ray and Cy of Sioux Center, Ia.; Joe, Henry and Conrad of Bellflower, Calif.; Mrs. Gertie Schra of Denver and Ben of Midland Park, N.J.

This appears to be Gertie Hogan. The 1900 U.S. census for Dayton Township [adjacent to Prairie View], Phillips County, Kansas has John Hogan (40), born Feb. 1860 in Holland, a farmer, immigrated in 1870, naturalized; wife Gertie (36), born Jan. 1864 in Holland, immigrated in 1880; children Elias (17), John (16), Antonio (14), and Fannie (13), born in New Jersey; and Gertie (11), Johanna H. (10), Ray (8), Cyne (5), Dina (3), Benjamin (1), and John (1/12), born in Kansas.
