From the Sioux Center News, December 17, 1936:

Cornelius, first and only child of Mr. and Mrs. John Schelling, became seriously ill Wednesday with the flu and passed away Thursday morning, at the age of six months.

Funeral services for him and for a newborn son of Mr. and Mrs. Rochus Schelling were held at the John Schelling home Saturday.

His death certificate gives his birth date as Dec. 11, 1936, but this was actually his death date; it gives his age as 5 months 11 days. Born in West Branch Township, Sioux County, parents John Schelling, born in Sioux County, and Hendrina Van Beek, born in the Netherlands. Died at 12:15 a.m. December 11, 1936; cause, Peuninis[??], onset Dec. 10?; contributory cause, influenza, duration 1 day. Buried at Sioux Center.

He does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.
