Parents were Friedrich August Perau and wife Catherina Dorothea Elizabeth Werner. Children listed were William C. Schnepf and Marie A. Matheson.

Pioneer Woman Buried Monday Mrs. Dora Schnepf Dies at 81; Many at Rites at Lakewood Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for one of northwest Iowa's early residents, Mrs. Dora Schnepf, of Lakewood. Services were conducted in the home at Lakewood, and in Bethlehem Lutheran church at Lakewood, by the Rev. Alfred Christiansen. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery, northeast of Hull. Pallbearers were four sons-inlaw: August Finck, Erwin Finck, Elmer Matheson, and the Rev. George Griesse, and two grandsons, Arthur Schnepf and James Schnepf.

Mrs. Dora Schnepf was born on the 27th day of August, 1864, in Barum Province, Hannover, Germany, a daughter of Frederick Perau, and his wife, Dorothea Elizabeth, nee Werner. This daughter was given the name Catherine Maria Dorothea. A t the age of two years, she accompanied her parents on the long journey to America. In the state of Wisconsin, the family made its home for six years, living on a farm. Crop failures in Wisconsin led the family to move to Northwest Iowa in 1872, settling for a brief period of time in Sioux county. The family then moved to Osceola county, living near Sibley for six years, battling plague after plague of grasshoppers and never raising a crop during those years. They returned to Sioux county, traveling by ox teams. On January 12, 1883, the deceased was united in marriage to Chris Schnepf.

To-this union ten children were born, two of which preceded their mother in death. The husband likewise passed away in 1931. From the fall of 1888 to the spring of 1890, Mr. and Mrs. Schnepf and their young family sojourned in Germany, returning to Iowa in April of 1890, making their home in Sioux county until 1901. It 4 was in 1901 that the Schnepf family came to the farm near Lakewood on which both parents were destined to spend the rest of their lives.

Mrs. Schnepf died Thursday morning, January 17, a few minutes past ten o'clock, at the age of 81 years, four months and 21 days. She leaves to mourn her passing:^ eight children, Mina, (Mrs. August Finck), of Rock Rapids; Henry, of Rock Rapids; William of Decatur, Ind.; Lena", (Mrs. George Griesse), of Battle Creek, Iowa; Elizabeth, (Mr» . Ralph McMillan), of Van Wert, Ohio; Marie, (Mrs. Fred, of Alvord, and Rosa , (Mrs. Erwin Finck), of Rock Rapids. Also one slater, Mtas Mina Perau of Sheldon, Iowa. —
