From the Hawarden Independent, October 1, 1936:

DEATH OF DR. MAY W. REDFIELD

Dr. May Walrod Redfield of Rapid City, S.D., passed away Sunday Sept. 20th, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on Sept. 15th. Dr. Redfield was taken ill while acting as a hostess at a party for the past worthy matrons of the Eastern Star lodge in Rapid City. She had helped serve the lunch and had eaten part of her lunch when she was stricken suddenly without warning and in a very brief period of time became unconscious and remained in this condition until she died. Funeral services were held in Rapid City on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd.

May Walrod, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Walrod, was born on a farm near Ireton May 26, 1878, so was past 58 years of age at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood near Ireton and she then moved to the Beresford vicinity with her parents. After completing high school she attended the South Dakota State Normal at Madison and for a few years she taught school. Later she entered the Still College of Osteopathy at Kirksville, Mo., from which institution she was graduated.

Following her graduation she practiced in Hawarden for a brief time. In 1904 she was united in marriage with Dr. G. C. Redfield in Sioux Falls and after her marriage they engaged in practice in Parker, S.D. A number of years ago she moved to Rapid City with her husband where both were engaged in the practice of osteopathy.

Besides her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Chas Walrod, aged 87 years, who made her home with her daughter, and one brother, Harley Walrod also of Rapid City. One brother, Dr. Burton Walrod, died about five months ago at his home at Wabash, Ind.

Dr. May Walrod was a cousin of Mrs. J. R. Bray of Hawarden and Mrs. Bray was called to Rapid City when it was known that her condition was critical. Mrs. Bray arrived at Rapid City before Dr. Redfield passed away. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bray had just recently returned from a visit with the Drs. Redfield at Rapid City and the news of her illness came as a shock to them.
