MRS. GERRIT VAN SURKSUM

Funeral services for Mrs. Gerrit Van Surksum were held at the home and at the First Reformed Church, Friday afternoon. Reverend H. Harmelink of Carmel conducted the services, assisted by Reverend Peter Vis of the Protestant Reformed Church.

Mrs. Van Surksum died suddenly at the ball game August 10, after suffering a stroke.

Rena Karssen was born in 1895 at Hull.

She married Gerrit Van Surksum on January 1, 1915 and they lived in Rock Valley for many years. Two daughters were born to them; one, Violet, died in early childhood. She also raised a foster daughter, Esther Betty Bolluyt.

Surviving are Mr. Van Surksum, a daughter, Geneva, and Esther Bolluyt. Also surviving are her father, Everet Karssen, Sr., and four brothers, Gerrit of Alton, William of Chandler, Minnesota, Ed of Rock Valley, and Dick of Sioux City, and a sister, Marie (Mrs. Tony Kooima) of Isle, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her sister, Mrs. Ed Bolluyt.
