JOHN VAN SURKSUM DIES

John Van Surksum passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly, Saturday afternoon, March 26th, about 3:30.

Mr. Van Surksum had a couple of strokes of paralysis, some time ago and had been in the Hospital for a month. He seemed to be improving and he left the Hospital Friday.

Saturday noon he had dinner with his children and felt apparently very good. He was very cheerful, but seemed a bit tired and was carried to bed. Suddenly the end came when none of his children were at his bed side.

This death is particularly sad being that last Sunday it was 7 years ago that his wife, Mary (Koppedraayer) VanSurksum passed away.

Mr. VanSurksum was a devoted father with only one thought in mind after the death of his wife, namely: to rear his family. The children who mourn his loss are orphans and at this time do not begin to realize their loss.

May the Lord who has given special promises to the widows and orphans be their portion as they face the world.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 in the local Christian Reformed Church, Reverend Huissen and Reverend Douwstra officiating.

The whole community sympathizes with the children and mourns the departure of a devoted father, brother and friend.
