Her active Christian life won the love and admiration of the entire community. After a brief illness of only two weeks she passed on, leaving only pleasant memories of her among a host of friends.

Miss Cornelia Vander Linden was born on March 27, 1858, at Amsterdam in Marion county, Iowa. On March 13, 1928, Mrs. Betten took up residence in the Pioneer home here.

A similar obituary (in Dutch) in De Volksvriend, December 17, adds that in 1880 she obtained her PhD from Central College, being one of the school’s first PhD candidates. In Pella she taught at the Openb. [Open Book?] school until coming to Orange City in 1894. For many years she taught the Adult Bible Class at the American Reformed Church here. Mrs. Hunter of Fargo was Nettie Betten. This obit includes a photo of her.
